Three to the Printer

If you've been reading this blog, you will probably have a skewed view of me. I've been intensely busy with work for the last 2 months (since I started the blog, in fact). I've been working 6-7 days a week, 9-12 hours a day. All work and no play. I'm really not like that. Really.

It's not been good for me, and especially not for my friends. I've not been that much fun to be around. Both online, and offline. I've tried to keep my finger in things but I've failed. But all of that overworking is coming to an end today. I just uploaded the last of the 3 books that I've been working on to the printers. It's over. Oh, there are more books on the docket, but they aren't anywhere as crazy as these three.

I'm now kinda in shock. I'm fully expecting the mother of all colds. Having an heightened adrenaline level for so long can only mean an immune system crash is not far behind. I'm stocking up on vitamin C, just in case.

I have a completely free weekend ahead of me, and I'm not sure what to do with it. I'm thinking a nice long walk might be in order.

Regardless, a celebration of some sort will follow. And at the very least… we will have normality. I repeat we will have normality. Anything you still can't cope with is therefore your own problem.

Certain Things are Likely

Time for a song of the week. This week we head back to the mid-80s. My waist size was a 28. I was as thin as a rail. I don't think that if I staved myself for a month I'd get into a size 28 nowadays. Friday's and Saturdays were spent at Boots dancing. Bob Currer was the DJ and synth-pop was all the rage. Well, it was all the rage in my world at the very least. I still have a couple of mix tapes from Boots that I've digitized and played over and over and over again.

The song is Certain Things are Likely by Kissing the Pink (yes a great name for a band) and it is pure 80s video gold.

Valentine's Day

So yesterday was Valentine's Day. The happiest day of the year for couples, or so the greeting card vendors would have you believe. I think the day has turned into an overhyped money grab by florists and card sellers.

Being single (and romantically inclined) I still love Valentine's day. It still holds meaning. Did I get or give flowers or a card? No. But that's never been a part of the day for me. It's about feelings and love.

You might rightly say I'm only saying this about Valentine's because I am single, but it's something I've always felt. I like the concept of the day, just not most people's implementation. The day seems designed for spending money on vastly overpriced items, much like Christmas has become. Valentine's should be a personal expression, a single day to tell the people in your life that you care about them. If the only way you know how to do that is with flowers on the 14th, you're doing it wrong. And if you're only doing it on February 14th, you are really doing it wrong.

So if my future hubby is reading this, please note: no flowers, no card, no nothing on Valetine's Day but a kiss and a "Happy Valentine's Day <insert pet name here>." and most definitely an "I love you," like you say every other day of the year.

And to all my friends, both online and off. Happy Valentine's Day, I love you all!

Oh, and if you want to send me flowers, they would be most welcome on any other day of the year.
